A LITTLE BACKGROUND
Redditch in Worcestershire and surrounding area has been the world centre of fish hooks for generations.
Carbon steel wire drawn in Birmingham was sent to towns like Alcester, Studely and Redditch and made into needles and fish hooks. The industry flourished in the 20th Century and the area became a world leader.
Industrial decline has, however, taken its toll. Many of the famous names like Allcocks, Seeley and Partridge have all since closed their factories and fish hook production has moved to countries like Japan. Now machines instead of manpower make fish hooks.
Many of the hooks you’ll see on the website are handmade from the stock from companies in the Redditch and Worcestershire areas where quality instead of quantity was what was important. Modern flies may have come a long way from the red wool and moss flies used in the 2nd Century or the ‘Ayu’ methods used by the Japanese over 400 years ago but the intent is still the same, and the results are no less attractive. Our fishing experience, with forty years with tackle shops on Speyside means we know the requirements of the trout and salmon enthusiast.
Our flies are all traditional and modern hand-tied fishing flies, produced to very high standards. The Teflon-coated rustless hooks boast super realistic finishes and are sound, consistent performers.
